A yard shunter is someone who manoeuvres vehicles, particularly reversing vehicles on private land, for businesses or logistics purposes.
Lazenby Training provide operatives with the necessary training and techniques required to safely move heavy goods vehicles around a company premises and other off road parking areas.
Do you need a HGV License to operate a shunter?
No. However employers must ensure that all their employees are fully trained to competently carry out their duties in a safe and efficient manner. You do However need a car licence.
How long does the training take?
Training to operate a yard shunter will take around 1 to 4 days dependent on the type of vehicle and delegate numbers.
Just like the forklift training, we provide the skills and knowledge that trainees will need in order to be compliant with workplace regulations 1992 and HSE guidance and approved codes of practice.
Essentially the trainee needs to be safe in the environment they work and we ensure that experience is gained in particular to high risk scenarios, such as high traffic levels, confined areas, pedestrians and any situation where reversing in general could pose risks to employees or the general public as well as preventing damage to other vehicles and property.
By the end of the course, trainees will have gained the skills necessary and the confidence to operate vehicles and trailers safely within a workplace promoting a safe and efficient working environment.
